The Living Rant

miscellany that is my life

Tired December 18, 2006

Argh.  I arrived at the ‘office’ at 9:30 today.  The office being my old place of student/work.  I’m supposedly working on my thesis abstract to be finally done with it.  I spent most of the morning (day) catching up with people.  It was great to be missed – everyone was interested in what/how I was doing back home in Halifax.

And now… now I’m tired.   I’ve not done anything to my thesis other than run a spell/grammar check.  It went well.  But now my eyes are drooping and I just want to go home and knit.  I was thinking of spending a night down here to save on gas, but I’m not really feeling in the social mood right now.  Hmm.  Might head out soon.  Might go shopping for a particular item and THEN go home.  I don’t know.

Also might have an opportunity for a policy internship here at GMRI! Woo.

Ah, the Yankee Swap December 17, 2006

What a sweet score I made this year!  I am the new proud owner of a stand along-side salad bowl thats large enough to bathe a small child.  Beautiful woodwork.   I didn’t have a salad bowl so I took the opportunity to make a big sweep at the yankee swamp.

It was a great party; I was able to visit with many people that I’ve not had a chance to catch up with for a while.  So far the trip to maine has been rather lax – the only money I’ve been spending has been at the local grocery store…alot of money however. I think I have already blew my budget on food for the week.

Tomorrow I head back to work – to work on my M.Sc thesis and manuscript.  Hopefully it will be a productive week.   I’m heading back home on Friday morning.   And with that, I better get back to my vacation.

I’m a little christmas Elf! December 13, 2006

lol  – thats right.  Just call me Buddy. ( I actually went shopping for Elf last night and couldn’t find it at Walmart when I was there… I was rather bummed.)  I’m currently in phase one of my cookie sampler boxes for gifts – chocolate chips are whipped up and ready to be backed.  Tomorrow, it’s molasses cookies and maybe oatmeal.  (Unless I can find a better substitute.)

I’ve 2 scarves started – one needs to be done before I go to Maine,  the other 3(4) just need to be done before Christmas.  Luckily I can take them to Maine with me.

Damn, if I had some wood, saw and nails, I’d make a train.

Riddle me this December 11, 2006

What is the proper etiquette for online dating? If you hit it off with Dude A online and then progress to reality,  do you stop the online flirting and focus on what you have.. or do you keep doing the background check,  the “just in case” searching?  Do you strike up a conversation with Dude B, C and F?

How much to do try and how much to you brush off?

*sigh*  can’t I just run into Mr. Right on the sidewalk? book store? Canadian Tire?

lol.

I baked a cake! December 11, 2006

Filed under: Aimless Rambles — Mel @ 12:54 pm

As per my job requirements as the birthday coordinator at the MMM program, I try very hard to have a homemade cake for each person – their choice of cake, of course!

The last cake was made for December 9th party.  It was an apple spice cake, found on allrecipes.com.  It turned out beautiful. However, I would recomment using two bundt pans for this cake… it rather overwhelmed my pan.

To further the holiday experience,  I also made an apple sauce rum glaze for the top… pretty much apple puree, cinnamon,  sugar, water and a couple shots of rum.  Good times… also good served with ice cream.
