The dinner experiment, Part II April 28, 2006

After getting home later than I had expected, I immediately popped the pork into the oven.  While that was roasting,  I cooked up some flavoured rice and sauted some peas and spinach in butter and thyme.

The pork came out sweet and juicy, yet not much flavour.  It seems that the experiment was successful but not great.   The roast needed some company in the pan, however, I wasnt sure what would go with the maple marinade.

Better luck next time, I guess.  I have leftovers today, which is good.  Supper was yummy, but it didn't blow me away.

An Aunt is born… April 27, 2006

On February 14th, my mom called with my valentines day surprise! I’m going to be an aunt!  Woohoo! Not only was one of my best friends expecting at the end of July, my brother and girlfriend are now expecting mid-October.

So, the needles are on fire!!

Baby blanket #1 is half done. I’ve modified a cute pattern I found online.  Using size 3 and 13 (US) needles, knit 7 rows of colour A with #13s. Switch to #3s and knit 7 rows with either colour A or B of your choice. Alternate needle/colour rows til reaching desired length.

I’m using Bernat Softee Baby white with the #13s and BSB yellow, green and blue/yellow/green mix with the #3s. Pattern is then w/y/w/g/w/mix repeat.

I’ll post a pic within the next few days.

The second blanket will follow the same pattern, however be green based with yellow and blue bands.

May the entertainment begin, or, more appropriately, may the distraction from writing my thesis be recorded here.

I’ve finally broke and joined the ranks of people with random thoughts.  Currently, I’m trying to train myself for using a GIS program that I will need to claim “well acquainted with” for a job interview I have next week.  However, this task is twofold, as it will be nice to have my field sites mapped nicely for anyone’s viewing pleasure.

With that, I best get back to work.

So, the ex is moving back "home". With that, he is emptying his apartment. As like most of us during a move,  he is trying to rid his dwelling of belongings, including food items. Well, I'm always up for free shopping, so I stopped by on Tuesday and made away with an assortment of goodies in a black garbage bag. How cat-burglar like.

Of those goodies, I scored a jug of Canadian maple syrup (how exciting, considering I'm in Maine) and a pork tenderloin. Now this poor tenderloin has been locked up in the freezer since late September 05… so chances are, it has been dying a slow death of freezer burn. To save it, its currently in a ziplock, with a cup of maple syrup. Hopefully they are becoming friends and all shall be one come roasting time….

Let's see how this turns out. :)
